Spote is a Progressive Web App (PWA) — you can install it on your phone or desktop for a native-app experience with its own icon, standalone window, and offline support. Once installed, Spote also integrates with your device’s share sheet so you can send content to it from any other app.

Install on Android

1

Open Spote in Chrome

Navigate to your Spote URL in the Chrome browser on your Android device.
2

Open the browser menu

Tap the three-dot menu icon in the top right corner.
3

Select the install option

Tap Add to Home Screen or Install app — the label varies by Chrome version.
4

Confirm the prompt

Tap Install or Add in the confirmation prompt. Spote appears on your home screen and app drawer.

Install on iOS

1

Open Spote in Safari

Navigate to your Spote URL in the Safari browser on your iPhone or iPad. PWA installation requires Safari on iOS.
2

Open the Share menu

Tap the Share button — the box with an arrow pointing up — in the Safari toolbar.
3

Tap Add to Home Screen

Scroll down in the share sheet and tap Add to Home Screen.
4

Confirm

Optionally edit the name, then tap Add in the top right. Spote appears on your home screen.

Install on desktop (Chrome or Edge)

1

Open Spote in Chrome or Edge

Navigate to your Spote URL in Chrome or Microsoft Edge on your computer.
2

Find the install icon

Look for the install icon in the address bar — it looks like a computer monitor with a downward arrow. In Edge it may appear as a plus icon.
3

Click Install

Click the icon and select Install in the prompt. Spote opens in its own window and is added to your applications.

Web Share Target

Once Spote is installed as a PWA, it appears in your device’s share sheet alongside your other apps. You can share content to Spote from any app that uses the system share menu — for example, a browser, a read-later app, or a file manager. Spote accepts:
  • URLs — shared links from your browser or another app
  • Text — any selected or copied text
  • Files.md and .txt files
When you share content to Spote, the app opens with the shared content pre-filled as a new note draft. Review and edit the draft, then click Save to store it.
The Web Share Target feature is great for capturing articles, links, or text snippets from your phone browser directly into Spote.
